WX Central is the optional multi-site tier of WaterWorksX Edge. Every site keeps running with it unplugged. Plug it in for one view of every device, licence, alarm and link across the estate.
How It Works
Every Site, One View
Each site keeps one outbound connection open. WX Central builds the estate view from there, and every product works from the same live picture.

What Leaves the Site
One outbound Sparkplug B connection, and only what you choose to share.
Each WaterWorksX Edge device opens a single outbound mutual-TLS connection, with a certificate issued to that site alone. It publishes the Data Points you have chosen, each with its quality flag, and buffers them on disk through a WAN outage. WX Central needs no inbound port at the site, and the same edge software runs whether the cloud is ours, yours or absent.
- Read by default. The cloud sees telemetry. A control write reaches a PLC only through a mapping the site has allow-listed, only when the PLC's own Local/Remote gate permits it, and it is read back to confirm.
- Per-site identity. The broker admits a site to its own topics and nothing else.
- Quality travels. Every value arrives with its status and age, so a stale point looks stale.

Your estate, at your own hostname.
Devices and Licences
Every device with its name, hardware, software build, licence state and last check-in. Load a licence from the browser and the box picks it up.
Sites
Map, grid or list. Open a site for its live points, trends, alarms and the views its own operators see.
Fleet Health
Which sites are online, what each one is running, how many points are live, and what changed since you last looked.
Alarms
Alarms raised at a site appear against that site and the device that raised them, with the site's own rules as the source of truth.
Machine and Process Views
The operator screens the site draws locally, shown read-only in the browser.
People and Organisations
Owners, operators and viewers, scoped to an organisation and signed in by emailed link with no passwords to manage.
Each customer's Client Area lives at its own hostname under clientarea.waterworksx.com. The sign-in page is the same for everyone.
WX Fleet
Enrol, update and watch from one place. Updates land only when you approve them.

Print the label the box makes, scan the QR code, and the device appears against your organisation with its licence.

Signed releases are staged centrally and applied when you approve them, one site at a time or all at once.
Watch
Every site's live state as it happens, with history kept per tenancy for trends across sites.
Notify
Alarms reach people by email, SMS and an on-call escalation ladder. The site's own alarm rules decide what is sent.
Bundles follow the Margo specification (Preview Release 2), so a third-party orchestrator can drive the same devices.
WX Atlas
The estate's communications map, and the way back when a box is replaced.
Atlas draws the estate as it actually runs: which site talks to which, over what protocol, and whether each link is live, half-open or undeclared. A timeline shows when links appeared, changed or fell silent, and an export pack gives auditors the same picture.
- Configuration backup. Each site's configuration is kept as an encrypted snapshot, with keys you control.
- Replacement path. A new device restores from the last snapshot once it joins, so replacing a failed box is a site visit.
- Every site reports. DNP3-only sites appear on the map alongside everything else.

Optix and DNP3 Across the Estate
FactoryTalk Optix in the Cloud
Each tenancy gets its own OPC UA server that FactoryTalk Optix Studio imports directly: the estate's Data Points as a browsable tree, writable where the site allows it. Build screens against live data and run them in the cloud or at the site. Optix licensing is Rockwell's, using the same entitlement as an on-premises install.
WX Master
The DNP3 master in WX Central. It runs wherever your DNP3 network already reaches, over paths your network team already allows. It reads each outstation's device profile for the full point map and collects the whole buffered event history with its timestamps, so a comms outage loses nothing. One catalogue of every point across the estate, kept current as sites join and change, and the control room integrates one system rather than a list of RTUs.
Ask Hydro
Hydro+
Hydro on the box answers questions about its own site from its own data and never needs the internet. Hydro+ takes the same question to the cloud when you choose, with the estate's history behind it, in the same Ask Hydro window.
Hosting and Data Ownership
One build, four ways to run it.

- What we can see. With WaterWorksX-hosted we see the telemetry you publish and the device details needed to run the service, and nothing the site does not publish.
- Tenant-keyed history. Every stored row carries your tenancy and every query is filtered by it.
- Licences. Device licences are bound to the hardware and issued from our licence service. An expired licence stops changes to the system, never the data.
- Leaving. Your history and configuration snapshots export in open formats, and the edge keeps running without the cloud.
