Software-Defined Automation for Water & Wastewater
Your SCADA, PLCs and radio links keep doing what they do today. WaterWorksX Edge sits beside them, reads every field protocol into one live tag database, and hands the result straight back to your control room and, when you want it, to WX Central, the multi-site tier. No custom engineering.
How It Works
Connectors write tags directly to a central local tag database. Every app and protocol reads from the same live source, so you can add new devices or services later without touching what is already running.
Built to run unattended at a pump station for years.
Your SCADA master polls WaterWorksX Edge like a standard RTU. Device profiles auto-generate from live configurations, so the two always stay in sync.
Seven field protocols into one common schema, the same setup on every site, and live tags shared site to site over the radio network you already have, with HydroFlow.
Alarms, compliance reporting and monitoring all run locally. If the WAN connection drops, your plant keeps running without interruption.
Enable tag logging with a single click. No third-party historian to buy, licence or look after.
Access all tools, including embedded FactoryTalk apps, with one set of credentials and centralised certificate management (no browser security warnings).
Every live dashboard tags values with real-time status and age, and the same quality flags travel to SCADA, to the cloud and into reports.
Connect what you have. Share it wherever it is needed.
| Protocol | Capabilities & Features |
|---|---|
| DNP3 | Poll remote RTUs and serve data to SCADA. Master, outstation, router and concentrator in one service. Secure Authentication (SAv5) selectable per outstation. WITS PSA member, with a WITS-oriented device profile exported as XML for every configuration. Tested against the IEEE 1815 conformance procedures; DNP Users Group listing in progress. DNP3 file transfer carries device profiles. |
| HydroFlow | Site-to-site tag sharing over existing radio links. Each site publishes a catalogue, neighbours pick the tags they want, updates are event driven, setpoints flow back, and the subscription survives a restart. |
| EtherNet/IP | Allen-Bradley Logix: online tag browsing, Studio 5000 L5X import, per-device scan rates, and supervisory write-back with read-back confirmation. |
| Modbus TCP | Client polling for meters and drives, plus configurable register maps for upstream SCADA masters. |
| OPC UA | Read PLC tag structures and serve standardised tag databases to FactoryTalk Optix or external UA clients. |
| PROFINET / S7 | Native communication with Siemens S7-300, 400, 1200 and 1500 series PLCs. |
| HCC2 | Reads the Sensia HCC2 controller's tag database over its on-box broker. No firmware change. |
| Sparkplug B | Outbound mutual-TLS connection to WX Central or your own broker, with store-and-forward buffering that holds data through WAN outages until delivered. |
Independent micro-apps running on a single edge device.
Centralised access and system governance.
Polled independently to prevent slow field devices from blocking data flow.
Local history, alarming and regulatory compliance.

The multi-site tier of WaterWorksX Edge: one place to see every site. Hosted by us, on your premises, or a mix of the two.
Each site keeps running with the cloud unplugged. Plug it in and the same telemetry, quality flags and alarms arrive over one outbound connection per site, with no inbound port needed at the site and control staying behind the PLC's own gate.
Devices, licences, sites, fleet health and alarms in one portal at your own hostname. Sign in by emailed link.
Enrol a box from its printed label, stage signed updates centrally, and apply them only when you approve.
The estate drawn as it actually runs: who talks to whom, over what, and whether each link is live. Encrypted configuration backup and a replacement path for a failed box.
Hydro on the box answers from its own site, offline. Hydro+ takes the question to the cloud when you choose, with the estate's history behind it.
A per-tenant OPC UA server that Optix Studio imports directly, so estate screens are built against live data.
The DNP3 master in WX Central. It runs wherever your DNP3 network already reaches, reads each outstation's device profile for the full point map, and collects the whole buffered event history, not just the latest value.
One Platform
The same image runs on every supported platform, so the device is a site decision, not a software one.

One image, one device.
Built to the Margo specification (Preview Release 2) for orchestrated deployment. LogixEdge arrives on Kubernetes with the same image.
Built-in OT security without administrative overhead.
Every value carries its status and age.
The flag rides with the value: DNP3 quality bits to SCADA, quality companions to the cloud, and into every report.
| Status | Definition |
|---|---|
| Good | Telemetry is live and within poll window. |
| Bad | Field communications failure. |
| Stale | Data point exceeded expected update interval and was flagged automatically. |
Runs on standard industrial edge hardware (Edge Compute, HCC2,
OptixEdge).
One unified software image tailored per platform.
Deploy the same software stack regardless of your hardware vendor.
Browse PLCs or RTUs online and select the tags you need.
Map tags to outstations or cloud servers with auto-generated profiles.
Print the device label, scan the QR code, and the box appears in your Client Area with its licence. Optional.
Software updates are managed centrally and deployed only when you approve them.
Bring your existing SCADA, PLCs, and radio links exactly as they are. We will show you WaterWorksX Edge running live on your own network, on one site, before you decide anything.
