Software-Defined Automation for Water & Wastewater

Your Network, Unified

Your SCADA, PLCs and radio links keep doing what they do today. WaterWorksX Edge sits beside them, reads every field protocol into one live tag database, and hands the result straight back to your control room and, when you want it, to WX Central, the multi-site tier. No custom engineering.

Why WaterWorksX Edge?

Built to run unattended at a pump station for years.

Your SCADA Stays As It Is

Your SCADA master polls WaterWorksX Edge like a standard RTU. Device profiles auto-generate from live configurations, so the two always stay in sync.

Standardised Connectivity

Seven field protocols into one common schema, the same setup on every site, and live tags shared site to site over the radio network you already have, with HydroFlow.

Autonomous On-Site Operation

Alarms, compliance reporting and monitoring all run locally. If the WAN connection drops, your plant keeps running without interruption.

Built-In Data Historian

Enable tag logging with a single click. No third-party historian to buy, licence or look after.

Single Sign-On (SSO)

Access all tools, including embedded FactoryTalk apps, with one set of credentials and centralised certificate management (no browser security warnings).

Data Integrity & Stale Detection

Every live dashboard tags values with real-time status and age, and the same quality flags travel to SCADA, to the cloud and into reports.

Connectivity

Connect what you have. Share it wherever it is needed.

ProtocolCapabilities & Features
DNP3 Poll remote RTUs and serve data to SCADA. Master, outstation, router and concentrator in one service. Secure Authentication (SAv5) selectable per outstation. WITS PSA member, with a WITS-oriented device profile exported as XML for every configuration. Tested against the IEEE 1815 conformance procedures; DNP Users Group listing in progress. DNP3 file transfer carries device profiles.
HydroFlow Site-to-site tag sharing over existing radio links. Each site publishes a catalogue, neighbours pick the tags they want, updates are event driven, setpoints flow back, and the subscription survives a restart.
EtherNet/IP Allen-Bradley Logix: online tag browsing, Studio 5000 L5X import, per-device scan rates, and supervisory write-back with read-back confirmation.
Modbus TCP Client polling for meters and drives, plus configurable register maps for upstream SCADA masters.
OPC UA Read PLC tag structures and serve standardised tag databases to FactoryTalk Optix or external UA clients.
PROFINET / S7 Native communication with Siemens S7-300, 400, 1200 and 1500 series PLCs.
HCC2 Reads the Sensia HCC2 controller's tag database over its on-box broker. No firmware change.
Sparkplug B Outbound mutual-TLS connection to WX Central or your own broker, with store-and-forward buffering that holds data through WAN outages until delivered.

The Modular Application Suite

Independent micro-apps running on a single edge device.

System Access

Centralised access and system governance.

  • Configurator: Manage apps, networking, diagnostics, licensing, and updates.
  • Data Points: Unified live tag database serving all local applications.

Field Connectors

Polled independently to prevent slow field devices from blocking data flow.

  • DNP3: Master, outstation, router, and mesh capabilities.
  • EtherNet/IP: Rockwell Logix integration with tag browsing.
  • Modbus TCP: Client polling and hosted register maps.
  • OPC UA: Client and server stack.
  • PROFINET: Direct Siemens data block access.
  • HCC2: Native HCC2 tag database reader.

Operations & Analytics

Local history, alarming and regulatory compliance.

  • Data Logger: On-box historical trending and CSV export.
  • Alarms & Events: Rules engine with an ISA-18.2 state model, anomaly detection, SMS and on-call escalation.
  • Water Compliance: Daily compliance evaluation with a rolling 12-month audit register.
  • Pump Efficiency: Live efficiency against the manufacturer's curve, wear trends and a printable report.
  • Hydro: Ask your plant in plain English. Runs fully on the box with no internet, so your data never leaves the site. Hydro+ adds cloud-scale reasoning when you choose.
  • Network Diagnostics: Traffic mapping and mobile data consumption tracking.

Cloud Connection

The parts of WX Central that run on the box. The rest is below.

  • Fleet Bridge: Store-and-forward telemetry over Sparkplug B, one outbound connection per site.
  • Atlas Site Map: The site's own communications map, kept on the box and shared upward.

Optional

WX Central

The multi-site tier of WaterWorksX Edge: one place to see every site. Hosted by us, on your premises, or a mix of the two.

Each site keeps running with the cloud unplugged. Plug it in and the same telemetry, quality flags and alarms arrive over one outbound connection per site, with no inbound port needed at the site and control staying behind the PLC's own gate.

Client Area

Devices, licences, sites, fleet health and alarms in one portal at your own hostname. Sign in by emailed link.

WX Fleet

Enrol a box from its printed label, stage signed updates centrally, and apply them only when you approve.

WX Atlas

The estate drawn as it actually runs: who talks to whom, over what, and whether each link is live. Encrypted configuration backup and a replacement path for a failed box.

Hydro+

Hydro on the box answers from its own site, offline. Hydro+ takes the question to the cloud when you choose, with the estate's history behind it.

FactoryTalk Optix in the Cloud

A per-tenant OPC UA server that Optix Studio imports directly, so estate screens are built against live data.

WX Master

The DNP3 master in WX Central. It runs wherever your DNP3 network already reaches, reads each outstation's device profile for the full point map, and collects the whole buffered event history, not just the latest value.

Built to the Margo specification (Preview Release 2) for orchestrated deployment. LogixEdge arrives on Kubernetes with the same image.

Secure by Construction

Built-in OT security without administrative overhead.

  • Configuration ports are bound to the box and reached only through the gateway, never exposed on the plant network.
  • Every site holds its own certificate from a WaterWorksX-issued authority. The broker admits a site to its own topics and nothing else.
  • DNP3 Secure Authentication protects the SCADA link, and single sign-on tokens are signed with per-installation keys.
  • A control write is accepted only from an allow-listed mapping, only when the PLC's own Local/Remote gate permits it, and is read back to confirm.
  • Releases are signed and ship with a software bill of materials and a build attestation, in line with what the EU Cyber Resilience Act expects.
  • Licensing governs changes to the system, not the flow of telemetry. An expired licence never stops data.

Data Quality & Status

Every value carries its status and age.

The flag rides with the value: DNP3 quality bits to SCADA, quality companions to the cloud, and into every report.

StatusDefinition
Good Telemetry is live and within poll window.
Bad Field communications failure.
Stale Data point exceeded expected update interval and was flagged automatically.

Deployment

Runs on standard industrial edge hardware (Edge Compute, HCC2, OptixEdge).
One unified software image tailored per platform.

01

Select Hardware

Deploy the same software stack regardless of your hardware vendor.

02

Connect Field Devices

Browse PLCs or RTUs online and select the tags you need.

03

Map & Export

Map tags to outstations or cloud servers with auto-generated profiles.

04

Join the Cloud

Print the device label, scan the QR code, and the box appears in your Client Area with its licence. Optional.

Software updates are managed centrally and deployed only when you approve them.
